Gene’s first subtitling work can date back to 2018, when she was working for the Documentary Film Screening Festival of International Documentary Forum (iDOCs).

Initially, Gene translated scripts and materials for the forum (English <> Simplified Chinese), including a Danish film, The Stranger. Later on, the director asked her if she’d like to help do the proofreading and revision for The Stranger. So, she started proofreading & revision for the film.

The Stranger, a documentary thriller, is based on Amanda’s real life experiences with Casper, who turns out to be several different people. The film is based on the popular Third Ear podcast “In a relationship with…” The main participants in the film are real people, who play themselves, while Casper is played by an actor, Esben Dalgaard.
